Feral Cities project, makes visible the multitude of non-human lives that inhabit our urban spaces- lives often rendered invisible by the rapid pace of development. My work combines detailed pen-and-ink drawings layered over photographs to explore themes of biodiversity loss, species displacement, urbanization’s impact, and the entanglements between waste, cities, animals, and humans. Drawing inspiration from Gond art traditions, I use intricate drawing-one dash at a time- to express the fragility and ephemerality of these relationships. These artworks act as quiet provocations, offering alternative ways of seeing urban nature and its untold narratives. This work has emerged through research, field observations, teaching, and visual storytelling, and is a call to recognize the shared space we inhabit with countless other life forms. As our cities grow- increasingly marked by fragmentation and ecological loss- the artworks invite awareness of what often goes unnoticed.
